Trial flying day at new Frankston site
Indoor Aviation has been given the opportunity to fly at the new netball stadium in Hillcrest Street, Frankston. Our first day as a trial is 23rd January at 9am until 12pm. The existing B/ B stadium we have used for many years is being demolished in April/May so hopefully we will be happy to use this new venue with plenty of parking and other facilities. We encourage as many people as possible to come on the trial day and check out the facility and hopefully give it your blessing. It is the building labelled Frankston and District Netball Association and may be marked on maps as Jubilee Park Stadium. It is a trial day and the usual Frankston facilities like the retrieval pole and coffee will not be available. However the new site has a proper café like Mullum Mullum and Wantirna South and that may or may not be open.
Gate 1 is the main entry into Jubilee Park Stadium, which can be found at the roundabout on Hillcrest Rd and Leawarra Parade, indicated with the star on the map.
If you are travelling on Peninsula link turn off at Cranbourne Rd exit. Then turn right towards Frankston and turn left on Lee St at Macca's.

The 2024 John Bird Competition WAS HELD on
Wednesday 21st August at Waverley
There was a good turn out with 19 members present plus Julie Bird, John's wife, and his brother Laurie as usual.
The competition proved quite challenging. The President, who had flight tested an initial sample of the model was overheard to remark that it looked like it had been designed by a Chinese soft toy manufacturer who had once seen a rubber powered plane from a distance.
The winner was the very cunning Andrew Halstead who drew on his vast modelling experience to deduce that the model as supplied had only three minor faults which needed attention: It had no aerodynamic efficiency, the motor was grossly mismatched and the wing had no structural integrity. His effort to obtain 3 flights of just over 20 seconds each was impressive.
Peter McCarthy and Ian Miller were 2nd and 3rd respectively with best flights of 11.0 and 9.5 seconds.
A big thanks to Colin Smith who donated the models for the competition.
Julie took some excellent photos on the day. And David Benner has done a video about the day.

Basics
All persons wishing to fly must sign in and out on the 'attendance register' to be covered by AMSA insurance.
Non-marking soft sole shoes must be worn at all times on the courts.
No combustion fuel powered aircraft are permitted to fly at any Indoor Aviation venues.
In order to ensure safe flying in the 'shared' indoor space together with fragile free flight aircraft, all remote controlled aircraft will normally use 2.4 GHz equipment and single LiPo cells of not more than 350mAh capacity. This restriction also applies to helicopters and other rotor-craft.
Reasonable exceptions to this rule (for example the use of Infra Red and alternative legal radio frequencies or 2 cell LiPos) are at the absolute discretion of the Officer in Charge on the day and the onus is on the flyer to show that the use of such equipment will cause no potential damage to the flying environment and that any possible control conflicts are properly managed.
