For anyone wanting to use their 2023 John Bird competition plane as the basis for a build, here is a reminder of what is inside.
Don't cut into the LiPo while trying to get it apart! The front half cover is hot glued to the rest of the fuselage.

Technical Tip: Why do small 1S motors come in two varieties?
Small 1S "pager" brushed motors as used in many of the RTF indoor models and quads come in two types.
How do you know which one you need?
Looking at the motor from the back (wires) looking toward the front (shaft).
Not all manufacturers (including EFlight) adhere to this convention but if you are buying small motors intended for quadcopters from Chinese on-line suppliers this convention is normally a safe bet.
How do you know which one you need?
Looking at the motor from the back (wires) looking toward the front (shaft).
- Motors with red/blue wires are intended to run CCW (counter clockwise),
- Motors with black/white wires are intended to run CW (clockwise).
- If the prop is a standard normal rotation prop and fits straight on to the shaft you need a black/white motor.
- If the prop is a standard normal rotation prop and the motor has a pinion and a main gear you need a red/blue motor, since the gearbox reverses the rotation direction.

Source of LiPo batteries for Vapors and similar planes
www.minimumrc.com/products/37-42v-28mah-lipo-battery
It is becoming harder and harder to find decent small LiPo single cells to fly the Vapor and similar very light models. Most of the sub 100mAh cells on AliExpress and similar have very poor current delivery capability (C rate) as they are intended for low drain Bluetooth headphones and equivalent applications.
One that has been tested, has the correct connector, and has proven to work well is this one from MinimumRC. It is nominally 50mAh but in fact delivers a bit over 40mAh at 200mA drain. It flies a Vapor or NightVapor well.
Minimum RC also have a "260"mAh 1s single cell with the Molex Picobalde 2pin connector for the small Elite, HH, Ares and other models. The 260mAh is another over-claim. This is actually a 10C constant rate, 205 mAh and is a decent substitute for other 200/205 cells that are now hard to get. It is of almost identical performance to the myLipo.de cells that IA purchased in bulk lots some time ago and which are no longer available at the price. The MinimumRC 1S "260" cell is slightly heavier than the myLiPo.de cell however at 6.8g vs. 5.9 for the myLipo.de 205mAh and Turnigy Nano Tech 200mAh. It is US$4.98 plus shipping.
