'Free flight' means that the aircraft is not under any form of human intervention after release. Free flight demands considerable skills in being able to read the flying environment and to trim the aircraft to fly within these constraints. The top international competition class of indoor free flight (F1D) records flights of up to 40 minutes duration and some indoor rubber powered models have flown for over an hour.

Not all rubber models need to be works of art

The craft of duration rubber models is a highly developed skill and may involve some esoteric applied magic!
However even simple rubber models can be lots of fun and an interesting challenge.

This "Depron Hanger Rat" built by Peter McCarthy a few years ago was surprisingly competitive for the simple construction. Mainly built from 2mm Depron foam.
RAB Hobbies carries large sheets of this foam. See the "Hints tips and vendors" section.
